So it looks like this guild charter bug is bigger and badder than we thought... bad enough to be around for over six months now. I found this mention of the same end result from a May 2004 blog post by a WoW beta tester:

So yeah. Hours 'wasted'. This just goes to show those impatient people however, that this is a Beta, and that it is not ready to be released yet.

I have to say that this is by far the most annoying bug I've yet experienced, and besides that the game is very enjoyable.

I feel similarly. I've found a number of other posts over the past couple months even on Blizzard's forums (as Tim linked above), so it seems like this is some serious egg on Blizzard's face. Now, I love this game! But please guys, this was really frustrating.
